PUBLIC MEETING: Sexualisation of Children, A Symptom of the Global Sex Trade
SPEAKER: Melinda Tankard Reist
TIME/VENUE: 12pm till 1pm on Tuesday the 12th of August at Parliament House Reception Room, Hobart.
A media and pop culture tour of objectification and sexualisation of girls and women and how this contributes to the global sex trade
There is broad concern about the sexualisation and objectification of children and women in advertising, media, music, clothing, and pop culture. The proliferation and globalisation of sexual imagery is contributing to a distorted view of bodies, relationships and sexuality. The lives of many boys and men are increasingly socialised, conditioned and informed by pornography. What is the evidence of harm? How does a pornified landscape in Australia contribute to the trade in the bodies of women and girls globally? And what can we do about it?
