MELBOURNE, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, 2014— Inspired by the passing of his family’s long-time pet dog Winnie, My Best Friend is a walking performance orchestrated by Malcolm Whittaker in memory of deceased and departed pet dogs of Australia.
Premiering in Melbourne as part of Field Theory’s 2014 Site is Set festival program (fieldtheory.com.au), My Best Friend will tour to Launceston next month as part of Tasmania’s newest arts and music festival, Junction Arts Festival on 11, 13 and 14 September, 2014.
Created and conceived by Sydney-based artist Malcolm Whittaker, My Best Friend reenacts the ritual of ‘going for walks’ that is commonly be shared between these dogs and their owners. While walking together (with or without a canine companion), both the artist and participants will share of stories of dearly departed pet dogs.
