Today I am attending the National Memorial Service to honour the victims of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 on behalf of the Tasmanian Premier, and the Liberal Government.
The Memorial Service coincides with the National Day of Mourning, which was declared by the Prime Minister a week ago.
We grieve the 298 people who were killed on Flight MH17, but feel such sorrow for the loss of the 38 innocent victims who called Australia home.
I know Tasmanians share the sadness felt by the nation and I will extend our State’s sympathies to those who are mourning the loss of loved ones.
Flags on all Government buildings will today be flown at half-mast, including Tasmania’s Parliament.
Condolence sheets at Parliament House in Hobart, Service Tasmania shops and Council Offices will be available to sign until close of business Friday 8th August 2014.
Elise Archer, Speaker of the House of Assembly
