Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon today called on the Liberal Government to detail the hidden cost of jobs cuts to regional communities around Tasmania because of the budget.
“The Government says it will cut 700 jobs but the real number of people affected is expected to be more than 1100.
“The loss of wages alone is likely to be almost $80 million a year,” Mr Bacon said.
“The social and economic impact this will have, particularly in local communities, will be enormous.
“This comes on top of the three quarters of a billion dollars worth of cuts outlined in the budget.
“The tens of millions of dollars in wages alone that will not be circulating in local communities is another bitter pill to swallow.
“These job losses will be felt across the entire State. Hundreds of jobs will go from regions that are already doing it tough.
“It is time for Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein to stop the lies and be honest with Tasmanians about the true impacts of the budget.
“Tasmanians should not be forced to carry the burden of Liberal cuts just so they can pay for their election promises. This budget is a complete con.”
