Peter Gutwein’s first Budget exposes the deliberate con of successive alternative budgets while in Opposition.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said today’s Budget raised serious doubts over Mr Gutwein’s credibility.
“Above all else this Budget is about forcing Tasmanians to pay for the Liberals’ extravagant political promises,” Mr Bacon said.
“The Liberals have no shame when it comes to abandoning key Budget commitments.
“Peter Gutwein’s alternative budget last year pledged a surplus in 2015-16 but his actual Budget pushes the target out to six years from now.
“The alternative budget didn’t flag massive dividends being gouged from government businesses to plug the Liberal Party’s extravagant promises.
“Peter Gutwein’s alternative budgets were not grounded in reality, they were designed to win votes.”
Mr Bacon said the Labor Opposition would not seek to mislead Tasmanians as the Liberal Party had done.
“Labor will provide a real alternative to the lies and job cuts in this heartless Liberal Budget,” Mr Bacon said.
“But we won’t pretend that everything can be fixed overnight, or that we have all the answers.
“Our first task will be to listen to what the community has to say about this Budget and to take up the fight on behalf of all the Tasmanians who were lied to by the Liberals at the last election.”
