The Hodgman government has demonstrated its incompetence by referring its radical anti-protest laws to an Upper House Committee after gagging debate in the Lower House on the basis that it was an urgent Bill.
“The Government is all over the place on this issue, and has clearly been caught on the hop by the public backlash against its draconian agenda,” said Greens Justice spokesperson Nick McKim MP.
“How incompetent can you get? One month it’s an urgent Bill that has to be guillotined through the House, the next month it needs a full committee hearing.”
“Paul Harriss has got egg all over his face. He’s making policy on the run in his Forestry portfolio, and now has gone too far in his zeal to lock up environmentalists and has had to move his anti protest laws to a parliamentary committee.”
“It really says something when an Upper House dominated by radical conservatives thinks you’ve gone too far in your attack on freedom of speech,” Mr McKim said.
