Poppy company says medical cannabis in Tasmania ‘makes sense’
Another major player in Tasmania’s poppy industry is baffled by the State Government’s decision to reject a medical cannabis trial on the grounds that it poses a threat to the poppy industry.
Premier Will Hodgman said the decision was based on feedback from the Poppy Growers’ Association who “communicated their concerns publicly last week, as they did to our minister”.
But the association’s Keith Rice said the body did not have a formal position when the Government raised the cannabis proposal last week.

• Estelle Ross, in Comments: Two of the three Poppy companies in Tasmania have stated that they have no objection to a hemp industry in Tasmania, so for Jeremy Rockliff to state the opposite is totally incorrect. Even his father agreed that there was no problem! Thank heavens for Ruth Forrest and other open-minded members of the Leg Co who are at least to review the whole project which will give us time to send in submissions.
