Tasmania’s Governor Peter Underwood has died a month after surgery to remove a kidney tumour.
The 76-year-old had been expected to make a full recovery after the surgery, but suffered a setback a day after returning to work in late June.
“His Excellency died in the Royal Hobart Hospital last night surrounded by his family,” a statement from Government House said.
Underwood was born in the United Kingdom and emigrated to Australia in 1950.
