The repeal on the Carbon Tax Legislation has been passed in the Senate today.
This is another election commitment that the Coalition Government have delivered on.
The repeal is very good news, providing much needed relief to families and small businesses by reducing the cost of living pressures and business overheads in my electorate of Lyons.
The Government’s consumer watchdog, the ACCC, has been given extra funding and powers to ensure savings are passed on to consumers.
“The Carbon Tax Legislation was a burden on society and did not reduce emissions at all” Federal Member Mr Hutchinson said.
“Despite what Labor say, they never supported scrapping the Carbon Tax and voted against its repeal at every single opportunity”.
The Carbon Tax has been a $15.4 billion handbrake on the Australian economy for the past two years forcing the burden on to households and 75,000 businesses across Australia including 9,000 small businesses in the electorate of Lyons alone.
The economic regulator has said that electricity prices are expected to fall by 7.8% in Tasmania as a direct result of the removal of the Carbon Tax.
This decision will help put money back in the pockets of Australian consumers and businesses in turn making it easier for businesses to compete and create new jobs.
At the election, the Coalition made a pledge to scrap the Carbon Tax, to stop the boats, to get the Budget back under control and to build the roads of the 21st century.
The Coalition are honouring these commitments designed to help families with more jobs and more opportunities in a stronger Australia.
