Today I officially opened the Level Three Gallery at the Launceston General Hospital on behalf of the, Minister for the Arts Vanessa Goodwin. The Level Three Gallery will be a three dimensional space for sculptural outdoor exhibitions.

The arts are recognised as a powerful tool to aid patients and families in challenging circumstances – and there is no doubt that time spent in hospitals for both patients and their families can be physically and emotionally challenging.

Today a growing body of evidence confirms the benefits of arts in health care settings as an aid to mental and emotional recovery.

The Liberal Government is very pleased patients at the LGH will now receive these benefits through the addition of the Level Three Gallery.

Of course, improved health outcomes also have a positive effect on the state’s health budget.

The Launceston General Hospital clearly recognises and embraces the use of art in its clinical settings and I applaud the ongoing work conducted by the Launceston General Hospital.
