It was a delight today to take part in the official opening ceremony for the Australian Disability Tenpin Bowling Championships 2014 at Moonah Bowl.
About 400 bowlers, their families, friends and carers from around Australia are participating over the next 10 days of competition.
I would like to thank the officials from Tenpin Bowling Australia and the dedicated volunteers for all their hard work.
Special thanks must be given to the Tenpin Bowling Tasmania committee members, in particular Joy Cairns from Aurora Disability Services, whose passion and commitment has shaped the development of Tasmania’s State Bowling League for more than 26-years.
This year the committee was charged with organising everything from the official dinner, to securing sponsorship of Tasmanian teams’ shirts and the sale of souvenirs.
All the significant fundraising and generous donations have gone a long way to making this event possible, with some members travelling great distances to be here.
The State Government also provided financial support for the event.
I wish all the competitors every success over the next 10 days of competition.
