Greens Leader Christine Milne says a weakened Hydro Tasmania with 100 or more job losses will be the first of many negative impacts on Tasmania if the price on pollution is abolished.

“Apart from tearing down action on global warming, the repeal of the price on pollution will be Tony Abbott’s big hit to Tasmania’s economy with millions to be lost from the Hydro and the state budget,” Senator Milne said.

“Global warming fuels extreme weather, and the price on pollution fuels jobs and services for Tasmanians.

“My thoughts are with the Hydro workers and their families today. If we go down the path of tearing down effective action on global warming then there will be more to come.

“On top of Hydro job losses, Tasmanian police, nurses and teachers will be at risk of losing their jobs if the millions flowing into government coffers is ripped out of the budget by abandoning the price on pollution.”
