The Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs and that is why one of our first actions in government was to put a two-year moratorium on headworks charges.

The initial two-year headworks holiday alone was on track to create up to 500 jobs and bring forward up to $100 million worth of development

We worked closely with TasWater to develop this policy and are pleased that they have recognised the benefits of removing headworks charges.

This week the State Government together with TasWater agreed to remove headwork charges forever.

The permanent abolition of the charges will give developers confidence to invest in Tasmania, create jobs and drive our economy for the long term.

This breakthrough, which has the support of the owners and board of TasWater, will cut costs and take us one step closer to achieving our goal of making Tasmania the most competitive place in Australia to do business.

Once our initial two year headworks holiday ends, developments in identified planned growth areas will not be liable for headworks charges.

Some developments in more remote areas will still incur a fee to contribute towards the cost of new water and sewerage infrastructure that is required to service that development.
This policy will not result in any additional costs to the Government.
