Greens Senator for Tasmania, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson responds to the latest modelling from the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM) released by TASCOSS today, showing that Tasmanian households will be the most affected households of anywhere in Australia from Tony Abbott’s horror budget.
Senator Whish-Wilson said, “Economic modelling is showing that Tasmanian households will be made $420 worse off by the Liberals’ budget hit on families.”
“Pensioners, families, the unemployed and students are bearing the brunt of Abbott’s special deals with the top end of town to end the mining tax and carbon price.
“It is outrageous that Tasmanians, the people who can least afford it, are given responsibility for bearing the biggest burden.
“Not only is the Abbott government ripping $2 billion from the schools and hospitals of Tasmania and cutting jobs from UTAS and the CSIRO, it is ripping $420 out of the pocket of each Tasmanian family.
“The three Amigos of Nikolic, Hutchinson and Whiteley have sold their constituents up the river.
“Tasmanians need representatives that will listen to their concerns and fight for their interests, not ones that will roll over and tow the party line,” Senator Whish-Wilson concluded.
