The Liberal Government welcomes the Federal Court’s decision today to dismiss an appeal by a Green front group opposed to a new mine near Tullah in the North-West.
Hon. Justice Tracey found that the Tarkine National Coalition had “failed to make good any of its grounds”, dismissing the appeal against the Federal Environment Minister’s approval of the Venture Minerals mine.
This news will go a long way toward rebuilding confidence and creating jobs in the Tasmanian mining industry. It follows on from last month’s announced sale of the Avebury mine near Zeehan.
Since coming to office, the Government has had a number of meetings with Venture and we will continue to work constructively with the company.
We look forward to work starting on this exciting project, which we expect we will create much-needed new jobs in North-West Tasmania.
Paul Harriss, Minister for Resources
