We are getting on with the job and helping deliver the high-speed internet Tasmanians deserve.
I’m pleased to announce the Liberal Government has been advised there are now 16 FSAM sites under construction in Tasmania and Visionstream expects those sites to be completed within the next eight months.
This is on top of the 15 FSAM sites which have already been completed in the State.
Two of the current sites under construction, located at Glebe and Riverside, have been redesigned to take advantage of overhead fibre optic cable.
I am very pleased to announce work is already underway at both sites to increase the aerial deployment with 107 poles being utilised at Glebe and 183 at Riverside.
This is a result of redesign work that Government-owned Aurora has performed in partnership with the contractor.
In addition, a further four FSAMs in Lindisfarne, Claremont, Waverley and Norwood have also been redesigned for optimised aerial deployment and are waiting on construction approval.
The Liberal Government has consistently advocated for greater use of Aurora Energy’s expertise and above-ground assets as a way to help the NBN rollout to succeed and ensure Tasmanians get the high-speed broadband they deserve.
It was the Liberal Party, not the former Labor-Green Government, who lobbied NBN Co CEO Ziggy Switkowski to include this model in the Tasmanian rollout.
This work represents early and significant progress by the Liberal Government as meaningfully helping NBN Co with the rollout in a timely and cost effective way.
It is also part of the Government’s continuing effort to support the fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) model.
The Liberal Government is committed to creating a connected and empowered Tasmanian economy and the IT sector is vital to our long term plan for the future of Tasmania.
