Clare’s Cooking up Creativity at Federation Festival

Posted on

Clare Bowditch musician, mother and muse. The category of muse was manifest when touring with Leonard Cohen … he proposed to her. Even though he is a ‘charming man’ that ‘really likes women’ she says it is her husband, Marty Brown that is her favourite life and musical partner even though she tells me on the morning of our conversation they had argued over taking out the rubbish bin!

Clare Bowditch gets to Tasmania a couple of times a year and extols it for its’ beautiful environmental culture, its ‘friendly’ people, their ‘humour’ and ‘patience’.

It will be Clare’s first Festival of Voices this year and she thinks it a wonderful idea for a festival and is very much looking forward to it.

Clare is also known for her acting in a television program that is very special to her, ‘Offspring’ and although she loves acting it is music that consumes her.

Away from music, Clare is involved in ‘big hearted business’ (www.bigheartedbusiness.com) a concept in which she successfully attempts to teach business people about creativity and creative people about business. In spite of what one might think about the two diverse subjects Clare says the process is easy and takes about five minutes!

Clare’s writing process isn’t necessarily so quick, although the initial reaction or inspiration is … she says that often she becomes ‘captive’ of the words which she describes as ‘a hailstorm’, she then puts them pot or saucepan to simmer or in the freezer to ‘chill ‘for a while … metaphorically of course!

Clare with her social conscience would like to see politicians be concentrating in the social good rather than economics and be part of solving problems rather than creating them.
With such deep views I ask Clare if politics is an option? She tells me with her music and a young family politics is not an option although her personal politics are very important to her.

You can see Clare perform at Festival of Voices at Federation Concert Hall on July 11 where she will be showcasing some new songs as well as singing all the old favourites.
Clare will also take part in a performance workshop at Federation Concert Hall on Fri, 11 Jul 10:00am to 1:00pm and Fri, 11 Jul 7:00pm.
