Australian Greens Leader and Tasmanian Senator Christine Milne has commented on Hydro Tasmania’s submission to the review of the Renewable Energy Target (http://www.hydro.com.au/about-us/news/2014-05/hydro-tasmania%E2%80%99s-submission-review-renewable-energy-target).
Please feel welcome to quote Senator Milne in saying:
“The Renewable Energy Target is attracting multi-million dollar investments and creating hundreds of jobs around Australia in the shift away from fossil fuels, and Tasmania is a huge beneficiary” said Senator Milne.
“What we’ve heard from Hydro Tasmania is that the Abbott government’s threat to the RET is already creating uncertainty and, in turn, threatening all those benefits.
“That’s on top of the big hit to the state budget that will come from abandoning the carbon price, which puts upwards of $70m into Tasmania each year.
“The RET plays a critical role in transitioning Australia to having a clean, sustainable electricity sector. The Abbott government undermining it amounts to intergenerational theft of jobs, investment and a safe climate.
“The Greens want the Renewable Energy Target strengthened and lifted to 90% by 2030.”
