Their corporate reputation will be tarnished … The Gunns doco …
In response to today’s announcement from Gunns’ receivers “KordaMentha”, that two companies have entered final bids for the Tamar Valley pulp mill, Lucy Landon-Lane of No Pulp Mill Alliance said:
“Any company that is bidding for this project must know that they will face strong community opposition and that their corporate reputation will be tarnished by their association with this corrupt pulp mill.”
Speaking on behalf of the No Pulp Mill Alliance she continued:
“The community will not give up fighting this pulp mill.
“Our valid concerns for the project have been repeatedly ignored but we will not give in.
“The assessment process was corrupted in 2007, and again earlier this year when new legislation was passed to quash the legal challenge to the validity of the permits.
“Impacts on health, environment and economic risks have never been assessed and community outrage continues.”

• Matthew Newton: Crowd funding raises $10,000 for new documentary about the rise and fall of Gunns limited.
A new feature length documentary is to be made about the fortunes of Tasmanian timber company Gunns Limited.
In a Tasmanian first, crowd funding is being used to raise part of the budget with $10,000 raised in the first two weeks.
Gunns – the Life and Death of a Rogue Corporation is a feature documentary for cinema release. It has secured a distributer that will ensure the film is screened in cinemas nationwide.
Matthew Newton who photographed the now famous image of the Weld Angel is directing the documentary. He has previously been a finalist in the Walkley awards for journalism excellence for his coverage of forest issues in Tasmania.
‘The great Tasmanian story of our generation is the story of the forests and within that, the rise and fall of Gunns Limited. It is about time some one sort to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and try and make sense of what has happened here over the last few decades. “ Matthew Newton said.
