Today Alderman Kristie Johnston was joined by Andrew Wilkie MP, Independent Member for Denison, to launch the Clean Up Glenorchy Taskforce.
In response to numerous complaints received from residents about the mess the City is in and the inaction by Council, Alderman Kristie Johnston has taken matters into her own hands and will be launching the Clean Up Glenorchy Taskforce today.
She will be joined by volunteer members of the community who are concerned about the amount of rubbish, weeds and graffiti in Glenorchy and the lack of action about it from Glenorchy City Council.
“My fellow Aldermen would prefer to commission yet another report rather than getting on with the basic job of keeping our city clean. This Council has got its priorities all wrong. The ratepayers want this dirty and untidy city cleaned up and they are telling me that they are sick and tired of Council inaction” said Ald Johnston.
“If Council won’t act then it is up to me and the good people of Glenorchy to show them how it’s done! The Clean Up Glenorchy Taskforce, without any assistance from Council, will be regularly conducting clean up days and getting the job done” Ald Johnston said.
Ald Johnston said “I invite concerned ratepayers to join me and lead this community by example, because sadly the Council is not”.
The Clean Up days will be a regular event, held on the fourth Sunday of the month. Members of the public are invited to join and are reminded to bring along a pair of gloves and sturdy shoes. Volunteers are invited to visit www.kristiejohnston.com for further information.
