More state election candidates support marriage equality than ever before according to the results of a survey released today by Australian Marriage Equality (AME).

AME national director, Rodney Croome, said,

“More Liberal, Labor and National candidates support marriage equality than ever before, showing there is strong momentum for the reform.”

“This bodes well for Tasmania taking the lead on marriage equality should the federal parliament again fails to pass it.”

The views of Tasmanian election candidates can be found at Australian Marriage Equality’s website, vote4love.com (www.australianmarriageequality.org/vote4love)

This morning, Liberal candidate, Kyron Howell announced his support for state same-sex marriage laws and a list of other Liberal candidates who share his views was also released.

In 2012 Tasmania was the first state to pass marriage equality legislation through the Lower House of Parliament but it was blocked by two votes in the Upper House.

All Green candidates support marriage equality. The Palmer United Party has a conscience vote on the issue.
