The Life Members of the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) are
calling for nominations for the Meritorious Service Award for aldermen and
councillors.
The annual award was introduced in 2011 to recognise exceptional service to local
councils by local councillors. Previous winners include Mayor Bertrand Cadart of
Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, Mayor Tony Foster of Brighton Council, and
Councillor Judy Bromfield of Derwent Valley Council.
Life Member, Mrs Sue Smith said, “The Life Members want to give an opportunity for
Tasmanians to recognise the tireless effort so many councillors contribute to their
communities, efforts which should be recognised.”
Nominations can be made by anyone on the Tasmanian Electoral Roll. Nominees
can be any councillor or alderman who has served on a Tasmanian council at any
time from 1 January 2009 to 1 January 2014, and the award may be presented
posthumously.
The Meritorious Service Award will be presented by the Life Members of the
Association at the Local Government Conference Dinner, to be held at Wrest Point
on 24 July.
