A Government Funded Forestry Legacy

A Government Funded Forestry Legacy … In the meantime the forests burn …

“The area burned by bushfires in Tasmania could be expected to rise by up to 100% by 2070 …”

This is what the pulp wood plantations look like a year after they have been burnt … they are not regenerating and are useless, useful for nothing except as another liability, another cost to the public.

This is what private property; rainforests; specialty timber forests; good building timber production forests; rare, threatened and endangered species habit near such pulp wood plantations look like after useless, ignorant political parties and governments sell the public out …

The Tasmanian Government, in my opinion, does not have the capacity, the wherewithal, the appropriate infrastructure to stop either the native forests or pulpwood plantations burning, going up in smoke. What investor would want to take on such a risk, such a life and property-threatening public liability?

As MPs and supposedly representatives of my electorate of Braddon and the state, I demand Bryan Green, Senator Richard Colbeck and indeed the likes of Greg Hunt, Eric Hutchinson and Eric Abetz present that to any potential ‘pulp mill consultative group’ and potential plantation and pulp mill investors. Unless of course they prefer hiding the truth and want to try and continue to con potential plantation and pulp mill investors too?

Perhaps though the Federal and State Liberals (with Labor’s blessing no doubt) will do a ‘Harriss’ style golden government handshake, indeed legislate to do away with any such liability/corporate responsibility, at the expense of the public … again.

In the meantime …

As a ‘human-rights’ lawyer how does Greg Barns see the TFA protecting what should be basic human rights for those negatively affected and outside of the industry ? … when the basic premise for the TFA is to give, (in my opinion) the likes of a rogue GBE – Forestry Tasmania and their preferred forestry club mates an international license (FSC) to continue to threaten the public, and coerce more public funds to gift a minority who have for decades failed to deliver anything good, positive, let alone fair to the state of Tasmania? Protect the integrity of world class forests by all means, but the integrity of the majority of players in the industry leaves a lot to be desired, let alone protecting those of the public who will have to continue to live with the negative downstream effects of a cock-eyed industry.
