In a Brilliant exciting New Show, Matthew Fagan proudly presents a special Spanish and Classical Guitar concert “Virtuoso” -A Homage to my Ancestors, a spectacular musical journey celebrating the Parkes family, his internationally renowned Virtuoso Ancestors.
Matthew will also be launching the CD “Virtuoso”- A Homage to my Ancestors which includes music repertoire of his Parkes Ancestors arranged for Spanish Guitar. Highlights of the show include Flight of the Bumblebee-Rimsky-Korsakov, Caprice No. 24-Niccolò Paganini, Rondo `A La Turca`-Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Czardas Hungarian Dance-Vittorio Monti ,Traditional Summer and Winter 1st Movements from “The Four Seasons”-Antonio Vivaldi, Flamenco Dance “Solearas” and “El Vito” & “La Partida” Spanish Dances.
Matthew has recorded these stunning virtuosic concert pieces as a homage to his Grandfather and Great Uncles on “ Virtuoso”, already receiving rave reviews.
The show will open with film footage of Matthew’s Great Uncle, child Prodigy Violinist Cecil Parkes. The film was retrieved from the National Film archives and is one of the first audio films from EFTEE productions from the 1930’s. Cecil had a long prodigious career as a concert violinist with his family and toured with International star soprano Dame Nellie Melba.

Cecil had a long prodigious career as a concert violinist with his family and toured with International star soprano Dame Nellie Melba. Cecil, at age 7 Boarded the S.S. Sonoma from Sydney Australia to San Francisco in 1916 for a virtuoso tour of concert Halls of the U.S.A.
Cecil is the older brother of Milton (Child Concert Pianist, Grandfather of Matthew), and youngest brother Violinist Kingsley. Matthew’s grandfather Milton was a celebrated concert pianist, accompanying his brothers and also a concert soloist. Milton died tragically early in life at the age of 27, his only child daughter, Noela being Matthew’s mother. The boys father Albert Parkes, a celebrated concert violinist from Covent Garden, Great Britian emigrated to Australia in the 1890’s.
Their descendent, Matthew Fagan has followed in the footsteps of his Ancestors and has toured with an extraordinary array of the world’s greats, including: Natalie Cole; The Original Buena Vista Social Club; Shirley Bassey; Michael Crawford and Billy Connolly.
Billy quoted that “Matthew is the best Guest Artist that I have ever toured with”.
Matthew will also present excerpts from his successful show “Lord of the Strings” for those of you that missed it. International touring guitarist, professional teacher & endorsed Maton Ukulele Player, Matthew Fagan provides a unique fun, exciting and informative workshop with flexible delivery depending on the participants interest & experience sought out in booking process. The workshop can include stretching, fingerpicking, strumming techniques, interpreting and expressing different music styles i.e. Bluegrass, Blues, Flamenco,Classical, rhythm, harmonies, chords, scales, composition and improvisation.

-Complete right hand fingerstyle development from beginner to advanced. Covering fingerstyle Folk/country/traditional styles as influenced by Merle Travis / Chet Atkins /Tommy Emmanuel.
-Banjo rolls and bluegrass as applied to fingerstyle.
-Flamenco guitar technique as applied to fingerstyle guitar including Flamenco strumming rasguedeo advanced rhythms.
-Flat picking techniques as in Traditional bluegrass and gypsy jazz (DjangoReinhardt) styles

International touring guitarist and professional teacher, Matthew Fagan, provides a unique fun, exciting and informative package for beginner to advanced.
Matthew is a leading instructor with over 25 years of guitar tutoring experience with two degrees in music from the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University.
Matthew has studied with masters John Williams, Tommy Emmanuel, Paco Pena , Martin Taylor, Tony McManus and Leo Kottke. Matthew is annually a finalist at the Winfield Guitar Festival, fingerstyle competition, the leading competition in the World and has performed and conducted workshops at the Bath Guitar Festival UK and major Australian Festivals i.e. The National Folk Festival, Port Fairy and Cygnet Festival.
Essentially a Spanish classical guitarist , Matthew has deeply explored the techniques of Spanish Flamenco, Gypsy Jazz, Celtic, American roots and modern finger-style Guitar.
Matthew is the endorsed player of Maton Ukuleles. Matthew has conducted Ukulele workshops at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Central Coast Ukulele Festival, Illawarra Folk Festival and Swingalales & SSCUM ukulele clubs. Matthew’s workshops start off with group participation in stretching exercises essential knowledge for sustainable playing.
