Release a ‘no more lock-ups’ petition
State Liberal candidate for Lyons Guy Barnett and Opposition Forestry spokesman Peter Gutwein MP are urging all Tasmanians to raise their voice against any further lock-ups of land and support the rebuilding of the forest industry by signing a ‘no more lock-ups’ petition.
Mr Barnett said land lock-ups under the Labor-Green Government had already cost $700 million in lost forestry production each year and cost thousands of jobs.
“Many small family owned sawmills in regional Tasmania have been forced to close and the Labor-Greens’ phony forest peace deal had devastated these communities, he said.
“Thanks to the incompetence of Labor we are no closer to having a world-class pulp mill in the Tamar Valley and the Triabunna Mill remains closed.
Mr Barnett, who launched the petition at Barbers Sawmill today alongside the Liberal’s Forestry Spokesman Peter Gutwein, said only the Liberals had a positive plan for the industry.
Mr Gutwein MP called on the community to get behind this petition and send the Labor/Green government a message. “It is time for Tasmanians to say enough is enough. It is time for a majority Liberal Government which really supports forestry,’’ Mr Gutwein said.
If elected, a Liberal majority government will:
• Say ‘no’ to more lock-ups
• Rebuild forestry based on innovation
• Provide a secure resource to mills and manufacturers
• Invest in new uses for timber by-products
• Crack down on illegal protests and workplace invasions
Mr Barnett’s petition can be signed on line at www.guybarnett.com.au
