FamilyVoice research officer Ros Phillips today welcomed reports of a new course in “male studies” proposed by the University of South Australia.

“Anything balancing the extreme views promoted by ‘women’s studies’ programs would be a step in the right direction,” Ros Phillips said.

“Some years ago I attended a lecture that was part of such a program. The female lecturer told the class that ‘gender’ is merely a ‘social construct’ – claiming that sex differences have no biological basis. I explained the sound research – conducted in this case by qualified female scientists – showing that men’s and women’s brains are wired differently.

“But the lecturer dismissed the findings outright. ‘What would you expect from male-dominated science?’ she said.

“I sincerely hope that the new “male” course, unlike most courses in women’s studies, will be based on hard evidence, not ideology,” Ros Phillips said.
