In just a little over a month, Tasmanian audiences will be treated to world-renowned cabaret and
burlesque performances, circus acrobatics, side-splitting comedy, family fun and the very best of home
grown and Australian musical talent, when the Spiegeltent arrives on the forecourt of Princes Wharf No.1
from 6-23 March 2014.
Ten Days Executive Director and Producer Marcus Barker said the Spiegeltent program was available
online or from your local café and offered something for everyone, ranging from family fun and
entertainment to breathtaking acrobatics, comedy and baby disco dance parties, as well as intimate,
saucy encounters.
“Presented by Ten Days, the Spiegeltent experience kicks off on Thursday, 6 March with a FREE opening
night, featuring roving entertainment, an Outdoor Lounge for all your food and beverage delights, as well
as Hot Dub Time Machine, spinning the world’s first time travelling dance party,” Mr Barker said.
“The internationally-renowned Spiegeltent, to be erected on the forecourt of PW1, is built of wood,
mirrors, canvas, leaded glass and detailed velvet and will play host to 33 local, national and international
shows with over 140 artists gracing the stage.
“In addition to the thrilling sights and sounds inside the Spiegeltent, a free Outdoor Lounge will be open
on site for all to enjoy from 5pm on weekdays and 10.30am on weekends and public holidays, offering a
range of gastronomic delights featuring a Smolt pop-up restaurant, bubbling Jansz and frothing Cascade.
“We are very excited to welcome to Tasmania our two very different internationally-acclaimed headline
acts, La Soirée and Cantina, which we know will leave audiences screaming for more.
“Currently playing on Broadway in NYC and with a second show wowing audiences at the Sydney Opera
House, La Soriée comes to Hobart with an intoxicating cocktail of cabaret, burlesque, circus sideshow and
contemporary variety shows, while for those a little more courageous, Cantina offers a daring and
extraordinary display of acrobatics, contortion and aerialism.”
Mr Barker said joining these headline acts were the suitably eccentric British cult musical group The Tiger
Lillies, local musical performances from Lulu and the Paige Turners and Enola Fall, alongside politically
edgy comedy from the guys from The Chaser, Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen, the peculiar Frank
Woodley and one of Australia’s favourite stand-up comedians, Tom Gleeson.
“Miz Ima Starr will also hit the Spiegeltent stage with her drag bag of outrageous costumes and cocktail
hour crooning, while Monski Mouse’s Baby Disco Dance Hall will have the kids letting loose on the dance
floor, and for the young at heart Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo prehistoric giants will leave them quaking in their
boots.
“There is literally something in the program for everyone, eat drink and be merry at the free Outdoor
Lounge, or step inside the Spiegeltent to view one of the many shows on offer.”
The March 2014 Spiegeltent extravaganza is one of the first steps in an exciting new strategic direction for
Ten Days, evolving from a biennial festival to offering audiences across the State access and enjoyment to
a range of multifaceted culture experiences all year round.
