The Tasmanian Greens today demanded that the government or Gunns Ltd receiver Korda Mentha release the names of the companies bidding for the proposed Tamar Valley pulp mill.
Greens Leader Nick Mckim MP said that Tasmanians deserve to know who the companies are so that their corporate history can be assessed.
“It beggars belief that Labor and the Liberals in lockstep are prepared to vote through more enabling legislation for the toxic pulp mill without even knowing which companies are bidding on the permits,” Mr McKim said.
“What is the workplace health and safety record of these companies? What is the environmental record of these companies? Have they even built or operated a pulp mill in the past?”
“Who are these secretive and anonymous corporations?”
“Tasmanians have every right to know the answers to these questions.”
“Again we see Labor and Liberal hiding behind the furphy of commercial-in-confidence to deny the Tasmanian people even the most basic information about the pulp mill that has divided our people for a decade.”
