Spiegeltent brings international spellbinding experience to Hobart’s waterfront

Posted on

Unveiling the next step in an exciting new direction, Ten Days on the Island has revealed the first
event in a new year-round program offering multifaceted cultural experiences, featuring the
internationally-renowned Spiegeltent, to be erected on the forecourt of PW1 from 6-23 March
2014.

Ten Days Executive Director and Producer, Marcus Barker, said Tasmanian audiences would be
treated to breathtaking acrobatics, intimate encounters, dance and cabaret as they left real life
at the door and journeyed through the incredible worlds of spectacular acts including headline
world-class performances from La Soriée and Cantina.

“Full of saucy, witty and skilful acts, La Soriée is an intoxicating cocktail of cabaret, burlesque,
circus sideshow and contemporary variety shows,” Mr Barker said.

“For those a little more courageous, Cantina offers a daring and extraordinary display of
acrobatics, contortion and aerialism.

“With only a small number of the legendary “tent of mirrors” left in the world today, Hobart is
set to experience unique and magical sights and sounds all of its own.

“Built of wood, mirrors, canvas, leaded glass and detailed velvet, each Spiegeltent has its own
personality, delivering an incredible experience supported by an array of world-class acts.

“Hobart’s Spiegeltent will host over 30 acts, including local, national and international singers,
bands, comedians, children’s entertainers, cabaret, circus and burlesque artists.

“We are thrilled to announce that internationally-acclaimed La Soriée and Cantina will be
Spiegeltent Hobart’s two headline acts, which we know will have Tasmanian audiences on the
edge of their seats.”

Mr Barker said the March 2014 Spiegeltent extravaganza was one of the first steps in an exciting
new strategic direction for Ten Days, evolving from a biennial festival to offering audiences
across the State access and enjoyment to a range of exciting, multifaceted cultural experiences
all year round.

“Spiegeltent Hobart paves the way for a fresh new approach that will inspire and enrich the
State’s creative culture,” he said.

The full Spiegeltent program will be inserted into the Mercury on 11 December and tickets go on
sale at 10am that day. An early bird offer for tickets purchased prior to Christmas provides a 25
per cent discount, subject to availability. To purchase tickets simply head to tendays.org.au,
