The Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival (BOFA) has presented its annual awards to film industry winners and recipients at the Festival’s Awards on Friday night (9 November) in Launceston.
The award winners were:
BOFA Short Film competition: Ninna Millikin (Piercing Silence)
BOFA Script competition: Adam Ransley (Eastside)
BOFA Entrepreneurial Spirit competition: Alicia Rackett (Blue Rocket)
The 2013 Festival supported the creative Tasmanian screen industry with three competitions and awards that reflect the importance of script writing, short film production and entrepreneurship in the making of a successful career in the Tasmanian screen industry.
BOFA aims to play an important role in the development of Tasmania as a creative state with an appealing lifestyle and a vibrant screen industry, through competitions that promote excellence and are a benchmark for the state.
“The calibre of this year’s finalists was very high, presenting an eclectic range of creative expressions across differing genres. The winning films engaged with the core thematics of BOFA 2013 – chiefly the idea of promoting positive change through illuminating stories. These works showcase striking creative voices of emerging Australian filmmakers,” said Zak Hepburn, one of the BOFA judges, as well as journalist and board member for the Australian Film Critics Association.
The winners for the three screen competitions were selected in partnership with Screen Tasmania and Australian Writer’s Guild.
All of the short-listed finalist’s films were screened as part of the 2013 BOFA Festival.
About the winning projects:
Short Award: “Piercing Silence” – Dir: Ninna Milliken – An engrossing documentary that profiles the stories of three women who share and reflect their experiences of abortion.
