RACT’s major tourism drive accelerates with purchase of four Federal Group properties

Posted on

THE RACT has confirmed it is buying Federal Group’s regional tourism businesses Freycinet Lodge, Cradle Mountain Chateau, Strahan Village and Gordon River Cruises.

The RACT has endorsed the purchases and the motoring club aims to take over the operations in January.

“With the completion and successful signing of contracts in the near future, we expect that the transfer of businesses will occur early in the new year,” RACT chief executive Harvey Lennon said.

“Our research tells us there is strong interest in RACT-branded operations and our tourism division will provide us with new opportunities to generate revenue from outside our Tasmanian demographic, including marketing to around seven million auto club members across Australia.”

Mr Lennon said all affected staff members would keep their jobs.

Federal will retain Wrest Point Casino, Launceston Country Club, Saffire resort at Freycinet and the Henry Jones Art Hotel.
