Director Luke Walker to visit MONA for Q&A Screening of the acclaimed documentary LASSETER’S BONES

Is there a billion dollars lost in Central Australia?For 80 years, Lasseter’s gold has been a great Australian mystery. Acclaimed documentary Lasseter’s Bones sees Filmmaker Luke Walker (Beyond Our Ken) teaming up with Lasseter’s 85-year-old son on a perilous outback journey, finally deciphering the puzzle of Lasseter’s reef.

Says Walker: “All the evidence you need to understand what truly happened to Lasseter and his gold is in this film. For all the myth and mystery, this film gets closer to the gold than anyone has been in 80 years.”

Walker’s journey took three years, leading him across six states and deep into the heart of Australia. However, he says Lasseter’s Bonesisa story about much more than gold:“Lasseter’s story is really about faith, and why we choose to believe in things we have not a shred of proof for. It is a parable for anyone who has ever dared to dream in the face of ridicule, a testament to the power of an unfulfilled narrative and what we must do when stories don’t end the way we want them to.

Lasseter’s Bones is screening nationally from 31 October, including at Hobart’s MONA cinema, Until November 14

Director Luke Walker (Beyond Our Ken) will be visiting MONA on Sunday 3 November at 2pm for a special Q&A screening of the film, hosted by Cinemona’s Viv Carroll.

Tickets are now on sale to this special event, and also to regular screenings of Lasseter’s Bones.

A Best Documentary nominee at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards 2013, Lasseter’s Bones was also voted one of the Top 5 Most Popular Documentaries at the 2012 Melbourne International Film Festival.
