James Squire Stow Away IPA 4

James Squire Stow Away IPA

Camperdown, Sydney NSW | 5.8 per cent alcohol

IPA, or India Pale Ale, was developed by British brewers looking for a way to ensure that their products didn’t spoil in the heat of the tropics. They found that adding more hops and brewing to slightly higher alcohol levels provided the required preservative effect and a popular style was born.

This excellent example comes from the Malt Shovel brewery and could easily become my thirst quencher of choice this summer.

It’s mid-brown — quite copperish — and shows good balance of malt and fruity hop aromas.

Very clean, well balanced palate with excellent length of rich malty flavours but highlighted by a pronounced, distinctive bitterness that superbly cleans the back palate and absolutely refreshes.

Very well suited to the Australian lifestyle.
