IT’S A LINE IN THE SAND
Common sense is in charge at Parliament House today as the Legislative Council voted down a motion to re-introduce last year’s defeated Same-Sex Marriage Bill.
The motion was defeated 8 votes to 6.
“It’s a victory for common sense and good governance, said Guy Barnett, spokesperson for the Save Marriage Coalition.
“With the economy struggling, jobs being lost and hospital waiting lists ballooning, the last thing Tasmanians wanted was the re-hashing of an already defeated Bill. They are fed up with the Green social reform agenda.
“There was no new evidence or any good reason to warrant a second debate. This was nothing more than yet another attempt at legislation by attrition.
“It’s time to draw a line in the sand. It’s time to move on.
“Marriage is a bedrock institution between a man and woman worthy of protection. It provides an umbrella under which children are nurtured and grow. Same-sex marriage denies a child a right to both a mum and a dad,” concluded Mr Barnett.
