The Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim MP and Greens Member for Braddon Paul O’Halloran MP will tomorrow attend the funeral of West Coast Council Mayor, Darryl Gerrity.
Nick McKim, Greens Leader:
“Darryl will be remembered as a man who embodied the spirit of the west coast,” Mr McKim said.
“He never took life too seriously, but at the same time he knew that you have to stand up against the system if you want a fair go.”
“Darryl was rough around the edges, with a fighting spirit and a wonderfully subversive sense of humour.”
“Characters like Darryl don’t come along often enough in public life these days.”
Paul O’Halloran, Greens Member for Braddon:
“Darryl’s long list of achievements in local government stands as a permanent record of his hard work and his passion for the west coast,” Mr O’Halloran said.
“Darryl was a remarkable and unique individual, who was the heart and soul of his community, and a tireless fighter for the people he represented.”
“I know will be very sorely missed by the west coast community, who I am sure will come out in force to pay homage to Darryl’s life lived large.”
“My deepest condolences to his wife Robyn, and his children Sam, Kelly and Sean.”
