Tasmanians are being urged to reflect on the sacrifice and responsibility of the men and women in our police service.
Deputy President of the Senate, Stephen Parry, said tomorrow’s National Police Remembrance Day is an opportunity to honour police officers who have died while in active service.
A former police officer, Senator Parry will lay a wreath at the Tasmanian Police Academy on behalf of the federal parliament.
“More than 750 Australian police officers have died while in the noble career of protecting our community,” Senator Parry said.
“Policing is a proud but dangerous profession.
“Just in the last few months there have been very concerning serious assaults on Tasmanian officers. This should not be tolerated.”
