The Moonah Arts Centre Concert series continues on Friday August 16 with ‘Last Days of the Mill’ a truly unique program of original Tasmanian music and live spoken poetry.
Local folk duo, Backseat Driver, join forces with poet Pete Hay to evoke the final days of one of Tasmania’s best known industrial sites, the Burnie Paper Mill.
Backseat Driver comprise guitarist Lindsay Campbell and vocalist Caroline Flood. Focusing on original music, the duo brings a wealth of experience including ‘The Craggs’, IHOS Opera, ‘Bandecoute’ and the ‘The Blue Flies’ to the line -up, whose music is relaxed, reflective and uniquely Tasmanian.
Joining the musicians, renowned Tasmanian poet Pete Hay will read select poems from the series, Last Days of the Mill – a book and exhibition about the final days of Burnie’s iconic paper mill.
This unique blend of music and words will be enhanced by the live projection of visual artist Tony Thorne’s beautiful and evocative images of the Burnie Mill that he created to accompany Pete’s poems.
This rich multimedia event is for one night only as part of the Centre’s 2013 winter concert series.
