Riots and suicide attempts are very likely

Tony Abbott plans to assess the almost 32.000 people waiting in detention centres using the non-statutory method of assessment by one public servant and a check by another.

Under this system just under two thirds are assessed as genuine.

That leaves some 11,000 people to be returned home or if they cannot be returned to be held in indefinite detention.

We saw the human cost of that last time and now we are facing the possibility of thousands in indefinite detention.

Riots and suicide attempts are very likely. Other mental illnesses are likely to take hold as the opposite of work makes free takes over and those who enter there abandon all hope.

This will be most cruel and unjust action, creating a ‘crime’ after the ‘offence’ occurred. How often have the Liberals attacked retrospective laws and taxes to now turn to this in an attempt to win an election.
