The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, welcomed today’s announcement of $135,000 in federal funding for sports and heritage projects in Denison.

The Federal Government will fund:

• $60,000 for safety and rescue equipment for the Sandy Bay Sailing Club. The Club will also use the funding to upgrade their facilities.
• $50,000 for Taroona Soccer Club to install extra training lights at Taroona High School to allow for night training sessions.
• $25,000 for restoration of stained glass windows at St Stephen’s Church in Sandy Bay.

Mr Wilkie has been lobbying for funding for these projects for some time.

“This funding announcement is a major boon for these communities and each project will provide real benefit to the community,” Mr Wilkie said.

“That this funding is announced so close to a federal election shows the importance of Denison now in Canberra.

“After decades of federal government neglect we have seen almost $1bn of extraordinary federal funding flow into Denison and Tasmania since the 2010 election.”
