Exhibition of finalists in ‘the churchie’ opens today
The exhibition of finalists in the churchie national emerging art prize opens at Griffith University Art Gallery (GUAG) in Brisbane today (July 12).
The 37 artworks will be exhibited at GUAG at South Bank for eight weeks – until September 7 – and are in the running for the overall prize of $15,000 donated by prize sponsor, Brand + Slater Architects.
Leading Sydney art dealer and gallerist, Roslyn Oxley, is this year’s judge. She will select the overall winner of ‘the churchie’, to be announced at the official opening and prize announcement night on Friday July 26 at GUAG (226 Grey Street, South Bank).
There were 586 entries in ‘the churchie’ this year, from almost 300 artists from across Australia.
Since ‘the churchie’ was first held in 1987, it has gained a national reputation for talent-spotting breakthrough emerging artists.
An invitation to the official opening + prize announcement night on July 26, attached.
