Gay lobby statements false and misleading

The NSW Standing Committee report on Same-Sex Marriage confirms that any reforms are best achieved in the Federal Parliament not the state Parliament, said Mr Guy Barnett Spokesperson for the Save Marriage Coalition today.

“The Report executive summary concludes as follows- “Because of these complexities, the Committee reiterates its finding that it is of the view that equal marriage rights may best be achieved under Commonwealth legislation.”

“The NSW report also notes the likelihood of a High Court challenge to any state based marriage Bill rather than the gay lobby’s assertion that such a law would be constitutional. Calling for the reintroduction of the same-sex marriage Bill in Tasmania (and other states) is not consistent with the report. The gay lobby is deliberately misrepresenting the conclusions of the Report.

“If the Tasmanian Labor/Green government does not ensure the withdrawal of the same-sex marriage Bill it confirms the government is using our state as a social experiment at the expense of our economy. Parliament must get its priorities right if we have any chance of getting our economy back on track.

“Last week the South Australian Parliament voted against a same-sex marriage Bill because of overwhelming evidence that marriage is a federal issue. It is interesting the gay lobby have not focused on the rejection of this same-sex marriage Bill but have tried to distort the outcome of a NSW parliamentary report.

Same-sex marriage would deny a child either a mum or a dad. Both are important, Mr Barnett said.
