(and makes a little chart history)

Karnivool are very happy to be able to say their long awaited third album “Asymmetry” has debuted at the top of the Australian ARIA album chart. This is one spot better than their previous record “Sound Awake” in 2009, and without going on about it too much, makes everyone involved very happy. “Asymmetry” is released in Australia on the bands own label Cymatic Records through Sony Music, and internationally (except North America) through Sony and is the band’s first number one album.

A statement from the band reads,
“Friends of Vool, The news has just come through that our new record Asymmetry has cracked the número uno spot on the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association ) album chart… And we’re bloody stoked. This is not something we got into the business of music making to try and achieve, nor did it ever cross our minds that it was even possible. Yet here we are! So we thought to we’d take this opportunity to extend our sincerest gratitude to all those, who after so patiently waiting, purchased a copy either online or from ye olde retail store. We’ll chalk this down as another win for independent alternative Australian music and everyone who supports it! We hope you all get a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that by buying our records you are helping to ensure we can keep doing what we do. Let’s be honest, it’s nice being able to pay the rent! We hope you are enjoying Asymmetry. This one’s for you lot.”

Love always,
Drew, Kenny, Jon, Hoss and Steve.

It also gives us great pleasure to point out this chart debut has also helped make some ARIA chart history for singer Ian Kenny, who also fronts Birds of Tokyo whose album “March Fires” debuted at 1 on the album charts in March this year. To quote – ARIA’s own press release,
“On the back of Karnivool’s chart-topping success this week with Asymmetry, singer Ian Kenny has made ARIA Charts history by being the first singer to have two #1 albums in the same calendar year with two different bands. Kenny’s other band, Birds Of Tokyo, topped the chart for a week in March with March Fires. Prior to this, Jimmy Barnes (1984), Eminem (2004) and Roy Orbison (1989) all had two #1 albums in the same calendar year with solo releases as well as releases as members of groups (Cold Chisel, D12 and the Traveling Wilburys, respectively).”

In light of this news Ian Kenny said,
“1 all to Birds Of Tokyo and Karnivool, What a nut ball year it’s been!”.

“Asymmetry” has also been making some waves overseas, on release the album has been in high reaches of the iTunes chart in a disparate and wonderfully varied collection of places throughout the globe which has been testament to the depth of Karnivool’s international following. In the week of its release “Asymmetry” entered the Top Five on iTunes around the world including Australia, Malta, Finland, New Zealand, Israel and Hungary and made it to #1 on the iTunes US Metal chart.

Karnivool’s “Asymmetry” tour starts in Adelaide this Tuesday with the band winding their way across the country for the next two weeks. They will take the tour to Europe throughout October and November headlining in some of Europe’s finest rock rooms.
See you there…
