Help TT: The little Gnat Who Roars …
Once in a while we give a gentle call for donations to Tasmanian Times. It has been over two years since the last time we had to: Aromatherapy for Tasmanian Times. Tasmanian Times will always be free. However, running a website is not without costs. There’s everything from the costs of computers, internet, phone, accountancy, the occasional ale to assist in decision-making and the need to constantly refresh, redesign, reinvigorate the website.
Tasmanian Times – pure, unadulterated Tasmaniana. No ‘free trial’ teasers as subscription bait or stories that disappear behind a paywall not long after they have been published. In the interests of informing public debate, Tasmanian Times content has always been free and always will be.
We are but a tiny gnat on Rupert’s enormous arse … but we are gnat who roars her/his little heart out … with many of the little and large voices Mainstream Media’s Gatekeepers consider outside its Incorporated Tent. Here content is free and will always be free because we believe there is a responsibility to freely provide information – largely on Tasmania – to this information-rich but too-often intelligence-poor world.
And we link (top Nav Bar Dropdown NEWS and Favoured Blogs, left-col beneath the regulars, Ed’s Choice, Media, What’s On etc) to a range of freely available sites, notably, the new Aussie Guardian (how welcome is the Guardian to Oz), Global Mail, The Conversation and the host of websites in the Favoured Blog column ( left side of TT, beneath the regulars, Ed’s Choice, Arts, today with Jeffrey Smart tribute, Books, today with Miles Franklin winner, Michelle de Kretser ).
At the top there is the creative intelligence of Tasmanian-based bloggers from 2012 Tasmanian Times Tasmanian of the Year, John Lawrence ( Tasfintalk ), acclaimed psephologist Dr Kevin Bonham, the creative genius of the Daily Kudelka, straight into breaking political news with Politas
In Favoured Blogs you can find everything from independent journalism ( Independent Australia ) the considered investigative analysis of intelligent international journalism ( ICIJ ), to analysis thereof (The Failed Estate ).
From Richard Acland to Donzo Knowler.
To Arts and Culture ( thecultureconcept circle ) by founder and writer-in-residence, Carolyn McDowall.
Don’t forget Modern Monetary Theory ( Modern Monetary Theory ), intelligent thought ( 3Quarks Daily ), newspaper archives ( Trove ), and Obituaries.
We could go on and on … but that’s for the main page!
Tas Times survives purely on donations and sporadic advertisements. Your kindness and support has put Tasmanian Times into its eleventh year. Every little bit helps, so if you feel its been worth a cost of a few newspapers over the past year or so and you can spare a few bob, please consider a small donation HERE:
Tas Times puts 10% of revenue to various charities for the poor (it was going to be 10% of profit but then we realised we don’t have any!). Tasmanian Times has supported community projects in El Salvador and Cambodia amongst others.
Thank you. On we charge,
