The head of Hydro Tasmania, Roy Adair, has left the company in the midst of major energy reforms.

The chief executive is three years into a four-year contract and the circumstances around his departure are unclear.

His departure comes as the company prepares to deliver its results for the financial year.

It has already downgraded future returns to government.

The circumstances surrounding his departure are unclear but in a statement Hydro chairman David Crean says both agreed the time was right for a change.

“The Board and Roy have agreed that now is the time for change and to make way for new leadership of the business as it looks ahead to the post-reform period,” the statement says.

Dr Crean says the move comes after the completion of several projects, including the transfer of the Tamar Valley Power Station to Hydro.
