Dominique Portet 2012 Fontaine Rosé
Dominique Portet 2012 Fontaine Rosé
Region: Yarra Valley and Pyrenees, Victoria | $22
French-born winemaker Dominique Portet quite aptly describes this as a serious wine that shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
It’s exactly what a rosé should be — delicately coloured, quietly aromatic, crisply refreshing when served chilled, bone dry, a perfect accompaniment to salads and a great aperitif.
For those interested in the more technical, it’s a blend of 50 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 30 per cent merlot from the Yarra Valley, and 20 per cent shiraz from the Pyrenees in central Victoria.
I’m not sure I need say much more. Portet has long been one of my favourite winemakers and tasting this certainly reminded me why. Pay about $22 and enjoy immediately in gentle Tasmanian autumn sunshine.
