TESTING GROUND Curated by Dr Julie Gough

Posted on

Testing Ground is a CAST touring exhibition initiated by Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart. Twelve artists from Australia and overseas are represented in the exhibition which opens at the Devonport Regional Gallery on Friday 10 May at 6 pm.

Testing Ground represents artists’ insights into actual and invented realities that relate to identity, place and cultural influences. The exhibition consists of large and intimate scale projections, photography, installation and sculptural works. The participating artists have created work that tests both the boundaries of identity and the possibilities of representation utilising varied techniques and cognitive experiences including humour, strangeness, charm and reflection. Identity and place manifest as physical, material or psychological phenomena.

Curator Dr Julie Gough will present a floor talk at 12 pm on Saturday 11 May. The Gallery will run concurrent education and public programs throughout the exhibition. For further information please contact the Gallery on 6424 8296.
