The Australian Greens have welcomed the move to commemorate peacekeepers on ANZAC Day, including listing them on the War Memorial Roll of Honour for the first time.
“I would like to pay a special tribute to the work of the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans Association, as well as my colleague Senator Penny Wright, who have worked hard to gain recognition for their sacrifice,” Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said today.
“Today as we reflect on all the people who lost their lives or whose life experiences have been impacted by war, we should also remember those who died upholding peace.
“Today we remember and pay tribute to the 48 peacekeepers who have lost their lives since 1947.
“I congratulate the War Memorial’s historic and long overdue decision to recognise their sacrifice.”
