NOBEL LAUREATE IN HOBART.

Posted on

Australia’s 2011 Nobel Prize winner for Physics, Professor Brian Schmidt arrives in Hobart tonight to deliver the Fourth Green Oration in Hobart Town Hall tomorrow night.

Oration spokesman Bob Brown says this will be the first public account by Brian Schmidt in Tasmania of his work showing that the Universe we live in is expanding. “ Brian is a brilliant presenter. He has asked us to provide him with a bicycle wheel and two helium-filled balloons as well as the big screen, goodness knows why! No doubt these props will help illuminate his topic which is fundamental to us all – the Universe we live in and how it all works.”

The Green Oration is an annual event bringing top speakers to Hobart on the anniversary of the world’s first public Greens meeting, in Hobart Town Hall on 23 March, 1972.

The evening will begin with a special performance on the grand piano of music composed by Tasmanian Donald Kay, played by Tasmania’s internationally renowned pianist Michael Kieran-Harvey.
