Tasmania’s peak farming body, the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA), is offering a subsidised tertiary course in Agribusiness, the ‘how to’ for running the planning and business side of a farm.
With federal money from the National Workforce Development Fund, the TFGA is underwriting the Certificate IV course offered by Tasmanian training provider Singleton Consulting & Training.
The program means up to 20 participants have two thirds of their total course costs subsidised.
The course is structured so that students can still meet on-farm commitments and they can pace themselves, as long as they complete within 12 months of the start date at the end of March. Delivery will be both online and through face-to-face workshops.
The course includes:
• record keeping for a primary production business
• operating a property improvement plan
• risk management
• budgeting
• administering finance, insurance and legal requirements
• staff recruiting
• managing crop and livestock production
• quality assurance
“If your business is going to be successful, you must have good business skills,” TFGA chief executive Jan Davis said.
“That applies to agriculture as much as to general commerce.
“We are really pleased to be able to help in this way. We may also be able to assist students with computer access for the duration of the course.”
