The Tarkine National Coalition has questioned Deputy Premier Bryan Green’s announcement of a four million dollar upgrade of the Burnie port.
The Deputy Premier has announced the expansion as being to service the ore from the Riley Creek proposed mine, despite that mine still not having completed the environmental assessments process.
The expansion has reportedly been funded by the Federal Government, despite the mine in question being part of the area that was up until last week being assessed for National Heritage Listing.
“On the face of it, it looks like Tony Burke and Bryan Green had already decided that the Riley Creek mine was getting approved, and they had done so before the Australian Heritage Council recommendation, and are not even prepared to pretend to wait for the proposed mines’ current assessment process to finish”, said Tarkine National Coalition Campaign Coordinator, Scott Jordan.
“This cosy relationship between Tony Burke, Bryan Green and Venture Minerals is getting dirtier every day”.
“The Australian public can no longer have any confidence in there being a fair and impartial environmental assessment process”.
